So you want to write a book.
Maybe you even have a manuscript sitting in your desk drawer that is collecting dust.
You are scared to reach out to publishers because you have heard how convoluted the publishing industry is. I have to say that I agree.
It is important to understand the species that exist in this wild word of publishing, including:
* traditional publishers
* self-publishers, and
* hybrid publishers.
These species need to be approached and treated VERY differently.
Traditional publishers are an option for less than 1% of the population, including celebrities, influencers, and anyone that has a huge platform. (I’ll argue that they are an option for anyone that doesn’t NEED a publisher. Ironic, huh?). For traditional publishers you write a book proposal and a sample chapter or two and… be prepared to wait.
For everyone else, you’ll have to turn to the often scary routes of self publishing and/or hybrid publishing. What the heck does that mean? Chapter three of my latest (a #1 New Release on Amazon book) Look Before You Leap, provides an in-depth overview of the “species in the publishing industry. You can get your free chapter (Species Guide) here.
