As I get ready for the upcoming Sun Valley Wellness Festival, I will be thinking a lot about how our society defines success. Our keynote speaker will be Arianna Huffington, and I recently enjoyed her book Thrive. She describes success as having three “legs of the stool”: power, money, and “the 3rd leg” (wisdom, wonder, well-being and giving).
I recently attended a live seminar with Jack Canfield, Marci Shimoff and Debra Poneman about finding Miraculous Success. If you have been under a rock and do not know about Jack Canfield, here is a brief overview:
Jack allowed us to nail down a definition of success: Fulfillment of your soul’s purpose. Meaning, use of our inborn talents and skills. “Get Clear Why You’re Here”.
For example his life’s purpose is:
Inspire and empower others to live their highest vision in the context of love and joy.
Marci asked Jack: How we can achieve financial success without so much struggle (burnout, etc.)?
Jack’s response: “Work is required. Struggle is unnecessary”.
He reminded us that we should do what we love, and always remember our WHY.
Can you run a deficit to pursue your why? Jack said when you’re aligned with purpose, it’s like “divine obsession”. “You’re unstoppable”.
He told how he started his business with a $10,000 loan from his mother and law and started at the dining room table, working and it day in and day out.
The person that invited the airbag didn’t make money for 17 years, but when it was finally put into law, that person made more money in first few years that he would have made a multi-millions every year for those 17 years.
Debra asked, “What do you do when you keep running up against obstacles?”
Jack: There is a limiting belief (that people don’t know exists). For example with money. He told the story of a man who had a limiting belief that he should not make more money than his father (as to not upset his father).
How to release? Bryon Katie’s work, EFT tapping.
Abraham Ester Hicks- If you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing, it should be easier. You shouldn’t feel like you’re swimming upstream.
Obstacles are put in our path so that we can learn things and grow. Earth is a classroom where we must learn life lessons. Mastery of communication, of emotions, of patience. Jack described his motto as “Love to learn, learning to love“. Beautiful.
Marci: How do you continue to believe in yourself?
Jack: Belief is a choice. You’ll see it, when you believe it.
Listen to your inner guidance.
You can create a better life for yourself by giving up complaining. You can create better relationships by giving up blaming. This is his Take 100% Responsibility.
O=E + R
Outcomes = Events + Response
Marci: You came up with 67 Success Principles. Which are the most important for people to move the needle?
Jack: Answered with a question: how many organs do you have in your body? Which would you keep? If there were a core, they’d be:
-take 100% responsibility
-create a vision (Want more info? Download Mantra #3: Zoom out for the Best View)
-turn your vision into goals (Want more info? Download Mantra #4: Plant Your Poles, Set Your Goals)
-have positive self talk
-have an attitude of gratitude
-never give up
