Here are the mantras from the show that you can incorporate into your daily life to be healthier and happier:
Mantra #1: Don’t make foods forbidden
Mantra #2: Display healthy foods where you can see them easiest
Mantra #3: Avoid power struggles around food by involving children and giving them choice
(food planning in a neutral, private place– not in the grocery store; tools include food cards and/or lists with choices)
Mantra #4: Use snack time as a way to fill up on those nutritious foods that we lack (fruits, veggies, protein, and healthy fats). Note the absence of grains– 98% of kids eat enough grains but lack other nutrients/food groups.
Mantra #5: Diffuse the tension around food by transforming the “problem” (the picky eater”) into the “solution” (mom/dad needs your help and input in making healthier meals and choices)
Mantra #6: Engage all senses -beyond just taste) to provide more opportunities for exposure to healthy foods. Allow kids to PLAY with their food (how it feels, doing art projects, playing smelling/touching/guessing games with foods, playing acoustic games, etc.). Older kids can prepare foods with you.

Real Food and the Perfect Diet: With over a decade in the health and nutrition field, there is no one perfect diet, but rather a perfect diet plan for YOU! As a dietitian, it is my job to create unique and customized plans based on each individual’s health needs and individual goals. I have seen clients thrive on a variety of ‘real’ food diets including: Paleo, moderate-carb, intermittent fasting, and Mediterranean, just to name a few. Everyone is unique and there is no one-size fits all approach to wellness.
Experience: In addition to providing nutrition counseling , I also provide consulting services for SportFuel LLC, a company that fuels elite athletes, including the 2013 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. My latest project includes writing meal plans for The Ultimate Diet Revolution, written by number one NYT best selling author and celebrity fitness trainer, Jim Karas. Previously, I worked as Director of Curriculum for Nurture, a non-profit focused on improving health for at-risk children and families.
Beyond work: My husband and I live in the Denver-metro area with our two young girls. When we’re not working, we love hiking, swimming, spending time with family and friends, and of course, enjoying delicious food!
