We all had some great laughs, especially as we reminded ourselves to follow the rule of the Losada Line, which suggests that for every negative statement we make (even– or mostly– about ourselves!) we must make up for it by stating SIX positive things to neutralize the negative. We also talked about:
*How to be more positive; specifically how to utilize the power of The Happiness Advantage, which suggests that happiness begets success, not the other way around. We talked through four easy techniques for bringing more happiness into our days:
1. Breathe. Specifically, the “amygdala breath”, which is a deep and slow inhale through the nose and releasing exhale through the mouth. Avoid a panic attack… we also talked about the book, 10% Happier.
2. Smile! Yes, smiling is contagious, and it benefits you (your attitude, your nervous system) and those around you.
3. Laugh. Whatever works– Saturday Night Live, jokes, or funny videos. They reset your mood.
4. The super woman pose. You have permission from Kikkan Randall and Liz Stephen to strike a pose for your power!
*How skiing can be an accelerated classroom. Create a vision (zoom out at the top of the mountain), plant your poles and set your goals, learn from failure/falling, commit and let go… there is so much to be learned from time outdoors in nature.
*Meeting Michelle Obama and the importance of kids having a healthy environment at school. In fact, this is why I founded Nurture, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the nutrition and health of children and families. I would be happy to meet with school officials to discuss our free curricula and resources on both sides of the Tetons!
-Here is the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge recipe book. Karin should enter her daughter in this Spring’s contest!

*Why it is important to take care of yourself, so that you can take care of others. We talked about a few books by Jenniffer Weigel: I’m Spiritual Dammit, Stay Tuned, and This Isn’t the Life I Ordered. We also talked about Steven Covey’s concept of Response is part of the word Responsibility. Our response is all we can control. We can’t control circumstances, only how we react to them. Jack Canfield suggests an equation: E + R= O. Events plus Response equals Outcome.
*The creative process. Read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert!
*A gratitude exercise. Yes, am AND pm!
*Marketing. Remember, marketing= love!
*Connecting the heart and mind when making decisions. I love HeartMath, and the Power of the Heart. On the way out, Rasheil and I talked about the “yogurt experiment” at the Heart Math Institute. A fun watch!
So much fun with you beautiful people. Please stay in touch!
